### About the position

The Product Owner, Applied Intelligence is responsible for translating business needs into scalable, data-driven, and AI-enabled product capabilities. The role sits at the intersection of product, data science, and engineering and owns delivery of intelligent features, models, and automation that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and customer value.

The Product Owner engages business stakeholders across the organization to surface opportunities, shape priorities, and build shared understanding of AI/ML capabilities, while partnering with data scientists and engineers to bring use cases from concept to production in a reliable, compliant, and impactful way.

The position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel is required to Avalon’s corporate office in Tampa, Florida.

### Essential functions and responsibilities

- Own and manage the product backlog for Applied Intelligence initiatives, including AI/ML models, analytics products, and automation solutions.
- Lead ongoing backlog-refinement sessions with cross-functional stakeholders so priorities reflect current business needs, not only engineering capacity.
- Translate business problems into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized work for engineering and data-science teams.
- Partner with Engineering and Data teams in Agile delivery, ensuring timely and high-quality releases.
- Continuously refine and reprioritize the backlog based on business impact, performance insights, and stakeholder feedback.
- Proactively engage business stakeholders to identify and validate high-value opportunities for AI/ML and advanced analytics.
- Support development of use cases such as predictive modeling, decision support, anomaly detection, and workflow automation.
- Act as the primary liaison between business and technical teams.
- Drive structured discovery and prioritization processes with stakeholders.
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels.
- Partner with data-engineering teams to ensure data availability, quality, and accessibility.
- Define and track KPIs for AI-driven features and drive continuous improvement.

### Minimum qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree.
- Four to eight years of experience in product management, product ownership, or business analysis with exposure to data, analytics, or AI/ML-driven products.
- Experience working in Agile environments with cross-functional teams.
- Healthcare or health-tech experience.
- Strong ability to translate complex business problems into structured product requirements.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts and machine-learning workflows.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on outcomes and measurable impact.

### Preferred qualifications

- Experience at a private-equity-backed growth-stage company.

## Positioning track

Technical IC (product-focused). The posting describes backlog and product-delivery ownership but no direct reports, budget accountability, or management-of-managers scope.

## Evidence map

| Priority requirement | Weight | Evidence score | Supported Keith Steward evidence |
|---|---:|---:|---|
| Own AI/data product priorities and translate needs into product work | 3 | 2 | Four years of documented product-management experience; at Intelligent DataWorks, customer discovery, HR workflow requirements, roadmap management, feature targeting, architecture, and delivery were direct responsibilities. |
| Working knowledge of AI/ML workflows and intelligent-product delivery | 3 | 3 | More than 25 years building AI, ML, analytics, and data systems; designed production ML, forecasting, optimization, and AI-orchestration capabilities. |
| Healthcare or health-tech experience | 3 | 2 | Direct healthcare/dental-technology experience plus enterprise AI/ML and analytics advisory work involving healthcare organizations, though recent payer/diagnostic-lab product ownership is not shown. |
| Agile cross-functional delivery | 3 | 3 | Led Agile engineering teams, daily Scrum, two-week sprints, and cross-functional cloud/AI delivery at Intelligent DataWorks, SuccessKPI, and other employers. |
| Stakeholder discovery, prioritization, and communication | 2 | 3 | Worked with executive and functional stakeholders; prioritized more than 50 analytics use cases and KPIs at TriMark and advised more than 200 enterprise AWS customers. |
| Data availability, quality, accessibility, and analytics foundations | 2 | 3 | Built enterprise data platforms, data lakes, ETL pipelines, cataloging/normalization, and analytics architectures; reduced cross-ERP reporting from roughly two months to one day at TriMark. |
| KPI ownership and measurable product outcomes | 2 | 3 | Defined and prioritized KPIs and produced measurable outcomes across enterprise analytics, AI products, and operational systems. |
| Private-equity-backed growth-stage company experience | 1 | 3 | SuccessKPI was a privately held, private-equity-funded AI SaaS company where Keith led engineering, architecture, product management, and delivery. |

Weighted capability score: 51 / 57 = 89%. This score measures experience coverage only and does not override hard constraints.

## Fit assessment

- Outcome: OVERRIDDEN by Keith on September 8, 2026; application materials generated despite the original compensation and down-level policy conflicts.
- Exact function match: Strong. Keith has direct product-management, AI/ML delivery, requirements, Agile, data-platform, KPI, and stakeholder experience.
- Level match: Weak. The role requests 4–8 years and is scoped as an individual Product Owner; Keith’s recent CEO, VP, and Senior Director experience creates substantial down-level and overqualification risk.
- Management-scope match: The role lists no people-management accountability, while Keith has recently built and led sizable technical organizations.
- Domain match: Good but not exact. Keith has healthcare/health-tech evidence, though current diagnostic-benefits, payer, and laboratory-management product ownership is not documented.
- Platform/technology match: Strong for AI/ML, predictive analytics, data engineering, automation, and production delivery.
- Work-model match: Remote eligibility is confirmed. Quarterly Tampa travel is approximately four trips annually; exact trip duration is not stated, so compatibility with Keith’s 5% maximum cannot be proven but appears plausible if trips are brief.
- Compensation match: Fails Keith’s application rule. No compensation is disclosed, and the title is Product Owner rather than Director, Senior Director, VP, or Chief.

### Strongest differentiators

1. Unusually deep hands-on AI/ML, data-platform, and product-delivery experience for an Applied Intelligence product role.
2. Direct experience in both private-equity-backed AI SaaS and regulated healthcare/health-tech settings.

### Material gaps and risks

1. Undisclosed compensation combined with a non-Director/VP/Chief title conflicts with Keith’s compensation-screening rule.
2. Material down-level and overqualification risk relative to Keith’s recent CEO, VP, and Senior Director scope.
3. Recent payer, diagnostic-lab, or lab-benefit-management product ownership is not documented.

## Artifact decision

Keith explicitly overrode the original FAIL classification. A technical-IC/product-positioned resume and cover letter were generated on September 8, 2026 at 4:27 PM EDT.

- Resume: `Keith_Steward_Product_Owner_Applied_Intelligence_Avalon_Resume.pdf` — 2 pages, 8,529 bytes
- Cover letter: `Keith_Steward_Product_Owner_Applied_Intelligence_Avalon_Cover_Letter.pdf` — 1 page, 4,001 bytes
- Override caveats retained: undisclosed compensation, material overqualification/down-level risk, and quarterly Tampa travel.
