## Central Mandate

Develop and drive Change.org's organization-wide AI strategy and transformation: align executives and teams around an iterative roadmap, create AI learning and demonstration programs, own the operating cadence, assess adoption honestly, maintain awareness of fast-moving AI capabilities, coordinate tooling with Engineering, and establish the organization's first AI adoption and impact framework.

## Evidence Map

| Requirement | Weight | Score | Keith evidence |
| --- | ---: | ---: | --- |
| Develop and communicate an organization-wide AI strategy | 3 | 3 | Defined AI strategy, product vision, architecture, and roadmap at Intelligent DataWorks; established AI/ML strategy and practice leadership at NorthBay; advised enterprise leaders at AWS. |
| Lead through influence and align senior cross-functional stakeholders | 3 | 3 | Advised C-suite and VP stakeholders across 200+ AWS enterprise customers; coordinated enterprise architecture, governance, product, engineering, finance, supply chain, marketing, and operations stakeholders in later roles. |
| Build and run a rigorous transformation roadmap and operating cadence | 3 | 3 | Owned product and engineering roadmaps, Agile delivery cadences, status reporting, prioritization, and cross-functional execution at Intelligent DataWorks, SuccessKPI, TriMark, and MassMutual. |
| Create AI learning programs, demonstrations, and ongoing enablement | 2 | 3 | Founded and led AWS Big Data and AI/ML technical communities of 100 and 80+ members, trained 180+ Solution Architects, created 170+ technical assets, and delivered 50+ presentations. |
| Operate credibly with C-suite and VP stakeholders | 3 | 3 | Current CEO; former VP of AI; extensive direct executive advising and regular C-level/VP communication across AWS, NorthBay, TriMark, MassMutual, and Intelligent DataWorks. |
| Maintain bleeding-edge AI fluency and an external practitioner network | 2 | 1 | Strong current technical fluency in LLMs, AI agents, RAG, evals, observability, Codex, LangChain/LangGraph, Bedrock, and open-weight models; an ongoing external practitioner network is not directly documented. |
| Contribute credibly to in-depth Product, Design, and Engineering discussions | 2 | 3 | Deep hands-on architecture, software, AI platform, product management, and engineering leadership experience; built major portions of AssistX directly. |
| Help an organization adopt a major new technology, ideally AI recently | 3 | 3 | Led recent GenAI product/platform adoption at Intelligent DataWorks; championed GenAI at SuccessKPI; previously drove cloud, ML, data, and governance adoption at AWS customers, TriMark, and MassMutual. |
| Partner specifically across Product, Design, and Engineering | 3 | 2 | Direct Product and Engineering partnership is well documented; explicit Design-function partnership is less directly supported. |
| Establish adoption and impact measurement | 2 | 2 | Strong KPI prioritization, business-impact measurement, user validation, workflow acceleration, savings estimates, and adoption tracking; no directly documented enterprise-wide AI adoption framework. |

## Direct-Match Strengths

- Exceptional direct fit for AI strategy, executive influence, roadmap ownership, transformation leadership, and technical credibility.
- Built unusually relevant enterprise AI enablement programs at AWS, including 80+ AI/ML specialists, 180+ trained architects, 170+ assets, and 50+ presentations.
- Recent hands-on GenAI fluency through a production platform with 70+ automations across 20+ workflows and an 11-engineer team.
- Compensation and remote work model satisfy Keith's standing requirements.

## Hard or Material Gaps

- Hard gate: `Over 200 applicants` exceeds Keith's applicant-count ceiling of 89.
- An active external network of AI practitioners/tools is not directly evidenced in the candidate source files.
- Direct partnership with a formal Design function is less explicit than Product and Engineering partnership.
- Civic engagement / democracy-platform domain experience is not documented; the JD does not state it as mandatory.
- Travel is not disclosed, but undisclosed travel is not itself a failure.

## Keyword Diagnostic

- Strong direct coverage: AI strategy, AI transformation, executive alignment, roadmap management, organizational learning, AI demonstrations, operating cadence, cross-functional influence, senior stakeholder advising, Product and Engineering partnership, AI tooling, adoption, impact measurement, technical literacy.
- Partial or unsupported: formal Design-function partnership, established external AI-practitioner network, civic-engagement domain experience.

## Full Job Description

Change.org is searching for a VP of AI Strategy. You will report to our COO. As a key member of our executive team, you’ll develop and drive the organization’s AI strategy and transformation, such that all teams are effectively leveraging AI for step-change improvements in the quality and velocity of our work.

Change.org is the world’s largest platform for democracy.

At a time when dissatisfaction with democracy globally is at an all-time high, we’re investing heavily in using AI to build an operating system for modern democracy. This includes our platform for giving people greater voice, a personalized voter guide for elections, and a new product which aims to bring people across the political spectrum together to identify shared solutions.

To realize this vision, we're building a team at the intersection of technology and civic engagement — bringing together top talent focused on giving citizens a direct voice, strengthening accountability, and building stronger, more resilient democracies.

### Key Outcomes

- Develop and communicate an AI strategy that has wide alignment and support across the organization.
- Build and maintain an iterative roadmap of AI transformation initiatives across and within our teams.
- Develop a robust AI learning program, including regular ‘step change’ training and frequent AI demos relevant to each team.
- Infuse the organization with frequent insights into developments in AI relevant to each team, and push all of us to grasp what’s already possible, or coming soon.
- Own the AI transformation operating cadence — run the meeting rhythm and reporting forums (AI-Exec, AI-PD, and related working groups) that keep teams aligned on sequencing and dependencies.
- Come in with ‘big ears’ and proactively listen to ICs on the ground before recommending major changes — map what’s actually happening versus what leadership believes is happening, and deliver candid recommendations on where AI adoption stands and should be going.
- Partner with Engineering on tooling operations — triage tool requests and keep the org current on the AI tooling landscape (without owning technical build decisions).
- Stand up the org’s first AI adoption and impact measurement framework.
- Build strong working relationships with the org’s existing AI leads as a thought partner.

### The Most Important Core Competencies for the Role

- Leading through influence, not authority — proven ability to convince senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment with no direct reporting line over them.
- Program/product management rigor — can build and run a recurring cadence that holds multiple functions accountable to a shared plan.
- Senior-management-level credibility — prior experience operating at a level where you’ve directly partnered with or advised C-suite/VP stakeholders (e.g. in a role as Chief of Staff, senior program/product management, or equivalent).
- Uniquely strong AI fluency and bleeding-edge awareness — maintains a real external network of AI practitioners and tools, and translates outside developments into internal recommendations.
- Technical literacy and credibility: may not be a PM or engineer, but can easily understand and contribute to in-depth technical Product/Design discussions.

### Target Experience

- 6–8+ years within a fast-moving tech organization.
- Demonstrated experience operating at senior-management level, or in a Chief of Staff-type role which leads through influence, not authority, at a senior level.
- Direct experience helping an organization adopt a significant new technology or way of working, ideally including an AI adoption initiative in the last 1–2 years.
- Track record partnering across Product, Design, and Engineering specifically.
- Experience in program/product management, strategy operations, or Chief of Staff-type roles is a plus but not required.
- Communications/Ops team exposure is a plus, not required.

### Employment and Compensation

This is a full-time role and Change.org is open to candidates living in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.

The annual salary for this role is $330,000 in the United States, MX$2,415,000 in Mexico, CA$310,000 in Canada, R$560,500 in Brazil, and AR$141,050,000 in Argentina.

### Evaluation Process

- Interview with Recruiter — 45 minutes
- Interview with Member of Staff — 45 minutes
- Timed Assessment — 2 hours
- Interview with COO — 75 minutes
- Team interviews with Functional Leads — 3 hours
- Executive Interview — 45 minutes

Change.org encourages candidates who believe they could be successful even if they do not meet every requirement. Change.org is an open platform serving people across the full range of viewpoints, participates in E-Verify, and requires professional-level English proficiency for all roles and application materials.
