## Direct-match strengths

AI governance, evaluation, precision/recall concepts, global technical leadership, consulting, reusable playbooks, security, privacy, and client communication.

## Hard or material gaps

Hard mandatory domain gaps: 10+ years in eDiscovery/litigation technology, five years applying AI-assisted legal review, TAR 1.0/2.0, continuous active learning, Relativity/RelativityOne, defensibility documentation, protocol negotiations, and multi-jurisdiction discovery practice. The role is also billable consulting with pricing, utilization, margin, pre-sales, and sales pursuits.

## Evidence map

1. 10+ years eDiscovery or litigation technology (weight 3, evidence 0/3) — Unsupported.
2. TAR, continuous active learning, and GenAI legal review (weight 3, evidence 0/3) — Unsupported legal-review specialization.
3. Relativity and RelativityOne (weight 3, evidence 0/3) — Unsupported.
4. Validation statistics and defensibility documentation (weight 3, evidence 1/3) — AI evaluation is direct; legal defensibility practice is not.
5. Client counsel and protocol negotiations (weight 3, evidence 0/3) — No litigation-protocol experience.
6. Global technical consulting team leadership (weight 2, evidence 3/3) — Direct global and distributed leadership.
7. AI governance, privacy, and audit trails (weight 2, evidence 3/3) — Direct regulated governance and privacy evidence.
8. Pricing, utilization, margin, pre-sales, and pursuits (weight 3, evidence 1/3) — Some budgets and consulting exist; this commercial practice mandate conflicts with Keith's preferences.

## Keyword diagnostic

Transferable AI governance and consulting evidence cannot replace the mandatory legal-discovery, TAR, Relativity, defensibility, and jurisdictional-practice requirements.

## Full normalized job description

About the role
KLDiscovery brings clarity, trust, and meaning to data for clients navigating legal matters worldwide. The eDiscovery Technology practice is where those clients meet advanced analytics and AI: technology-assisted review, generative AI classification for relevance and privilege, search and analytics strategy, and the non-standard workflows that turn a hard matter into a defensible, efficient one. Clients across the US, UK, Europe, and Asia Pacific are asking how to use AI in discovery and how to defend it, each under their own rules. This practice answers them everywhere KLD operates.
The Senior Director, eDiscovery Technology leads that practice globally. You will lead a team of technologists and consultants across time zones, own the methodology and defensibility of every AI-assisted workflow we deliver, partner with Advisory to package and price the consulting offerings they sell, and sit at the table with Product and Engineering as we build AI review into our own platform. This is applied legal technology leadership rather than a software engineering role, and a legal background is preferred.
What you will do
Lead the eDiscovery Technology practice
Lead a team of eDiscovery technologists and consultants who design and run advanced analytics and AI-assisted workflows on client matters, including technology-assisted review and continuous active learning, generative AI review for relevance and privilege, search and analytics strategy, and custom workflow design for non-standard tools and data.
Run the practice on a billable model: request intake, scoping, staffing, utilization, quality, and turnaround, against a demand curve that is growing fast.
Run it as one global practice, with one intake, one standard, and one set of playbooks across the US, EMEA, and APAC. Build follow-the-sun handoffs so a matter started in London or Hong Kong is picked up cleanly in the US, and partner with regional Operations leaders on staffing, skills, and coverage.
Grow the practice. Hire, onboard, and develop a manager, consultants, and technologists as demand expands, and build a career path from technologist to consultant to lead.
Build the operating rhythm: intake standards, capacity forecasting, coverage for second-shift, weekend, and deadline-driven work, quality standards, and playbooks so every matter gets the same standard regardless of who staffs it.
Own the methodology and its defensibility
Own how KLD applies analytics and AI to review: TAR 1.0 and 2.0, continuous active learning, generative AI classifiers for relevance and privilege, prompt design and iteration, validation statistics (recall, precision, elusion), and the documentation that makes the result defensible.
Serve as the senior subject matter expert for clients and counsel on AI-assisted review: scoping, protocol support, validation design, and explaining results in plain language to lawyers who have to sign their name to them.
Build reusable playbooks, prompt libraries, validation templates, and reporting so quality lives in the practice rather than in any one person.
Own AI governance for client matters with Legal and InfoSec: client data boundaries, client-specific AI restrictions, privilege protections, and audit trail, applied consistently across every tool the practice uses.
Adapt the methodology to the jurisdiction without lowering the standard: US TAR and GenAI case law and protocols, UK disclosure practice, GDPR and UK data protection, cross-border transfer and data residency limits, and APAC requirements, so the same playbook is defensible in every region where we run it.
Co-own the consulting offerings with Advisory
Partner with Advisory and Sales to define, package, and price the AI and analytics consulting offerings they sell: what we offer, how it is scoped, what it costs to deliver, and what margin it carries.
Supply the technical authority in pursuits Advisory leads across regions: pre-sales calls, RFP responses, pilots, and client education sessions for US, UK, European, and APAC clients and law firms.
Move the practice from reactive technical support toward productized consulting with clear deliverables, pricing, and outcomes.
Track offering revenue, attach rate, billable utilization, revenue per consultant per week, and margin, and report them into the weekly and monthly business reviews.
Partner with Product and Engineering
Serve as the practice’s voice into KLD’s own AI review capabilities: requirements, pilot design, operational readiness, adoption, and the feedback loop from client matters back to the roadmap.
Evaluate and adopt third-party analytics and AI tools, run structured comparisons, and own the practice’s vendor relationships and licensing.
Work with Process Engineering to encode repeatable workflows into automation and AI skills so the team’s time goes to judgment rather than mechanics.
Lead clients and cross-functional partners
Act as the senior technical voice for Client Success, Sales, and clients in every region on complex matters, escalations, and methodology questions, including cross-border matters that span more than one jurisdiction.
Represent the practice externally with a clear point of view on AI in discovery, thought leadership, and industry presence.
Lead with KLD’s values: Client is Always in the Room, Better Every Day, Own the Outcome, and Deliver Results Together.
What you will Bring
Required
10+ years in eDiscovery or litigation technology, including 5+ years applying advanced analytics and AI-assisted review on client matters and 3+ years leading a team.
Deep hands-on expertise in TAR 1.0 and 2.0, continuous active learning, and generative AI review (Relativity aiR, eDiscovery AI, or equivalent), including prompt design, validation statistics, and defensibility documentation. Working command of Relativity and RelativityOne.
A client-facing record: you have scoped, defended, and explained AI-assisted review to counsel and clients, supported protocol negotiations, and handled the hard questions.
Multi-jurisdiction experience: you have delivered analytics or AI-assisted review on matters outside the US or for non-US clients, and you understand GDPR, cross-border data transfer constraints, and how disclosure practice in the UK, EU, or APAC differs from US discovery.
Commercial fluency: you have packaged or priced consulting work, partnered with sales on pursuits, and can explain utilization and margin to a CFO.
Product partnership experience as the operational or practitioner voice on AI feature design, pilots, or adoption.
A record of building and developing a technical consulting team, including growing leads into managers and leading people across time zones.
A direct, clear communication style. You can explain recall and elusion to a general counsel and to a first-year technologist in the same afternoon.
Experience in PE-backed or high-growth environments where pace and accountability are the norm.
Preferred
Legal degree (JD or equivalent); bar admission a plus.
Structured analytics experience (Brainspace, Reveal, or similar).
Declaration or testimony experience on review methodology.
Relativity certifications, CEDS, or equivalent.

Own the Outcome.
We bring an unwavering bias for action, act with urgency, and hold ourselves accountable to our clients and each other.
Deliver Results Together.
We collaborate obsessively to achieve shared success. We assume good intentions, debate ideas thoughtfully, treat each other with respect, and fully commit once decisions are made.
Our culture shapes our actions, our products, and the relationships we forge with our customers.
